Five Verses to Arunachala

करुणापूर्ण  सुधाब्धे कबलितघनविश्वरूप किरणावल्या |

अरुणाचल परमात्मन्नरुणो भव चित्तकञ्जसुविकासाय ||

karuNApUrnNa sudhAbdhey kabalitaghanavishwarUpa kiraNAvalyA

aruNAchala paramAtmann-aruNobhava chitta-kanja-suvikAsAya (1)

Ocean of Nectar, filled with Compassion, swallowing the dense universe with your rays of light, O Arunachala, the Supreme itself! Be the sun for the auspicious blossoming of the heart-lotus!

त्वय्यरुणाचल सर्वं भूत्वा स्थित्वा प्रलीनमेतच्चित्रम् |

ह्र्द्यहमित्यामतया नृत्यसि भोस्ते वदन्ति हृदयं नाम ||

tvayyaruNAchala sarvam bhUtvA sthitvA pralInametacchitram

hrdyahamityAmatayA nrutyasi bhoste vadanti hrudayam nAma (2)

O Arunachala! In you, the picture of the universe comes into being, and having existed, is resolved. O Wonder! You are dancing in the heart as the 'I', the Self. Thus your name is Heart.

अहमिति  कुत आयाती  त्यन्विष्यान्तः प्रविष्टयाऽत्यमलधिया 

अवगम्य स्वं रूपं शाम्यत्यरुणाचल त्वयि नदीवाब्धौ ||

ahamiti kuta AyAtI-tI anviShyAntah praviShTayAtyamaladhiyA

avagamya svam rUpam shAmyatyaruNAchala tvayi nadIvAbdhau (3)

Seeking the source of 'I' with a purified mind delving inward, realizing the truth of Self, one gets merged in you, O Arunachala! Just as a river merges into the ocean.

त्यक्त्वा विषयं बाह्यं रुद्धप्राणेन रुद्धमनसान्तस्त्वाम्

ध्यायन्पश्यति योगी दीधितिमरुणाचल त्वयि महीयं ते ||

tyaktvA viShayam bAhyam ruddha-prANena ruddha-manasAntastvAm

dhyAyan-pashyati yogI dIdhitim-aruNAchala tvayi mahIyam te (4)

Abandoning all thought of external objects, controlling the breath and the mind, meditating on you within, the yogi comprehends your light, O Arunachala!

त्वय्यर्पितमनसा त्वां पश्यन्  सर्वं  तवाकृतितया सततम् 

भजतेऽनन्यप्रीत्या स जयत्यरुणाचल त्वयि सुखे मग्नः ||

tvayyarpita-manasA tvAm pashyan sarvam tavAkrutitayA satatam

bhajante'nanya-prItyA sa jayatyaruNAchala tvayi sukh magnah (5)

Offering up the mind to you, always seeing all things as your form, worshipping only you, that one triumphs, O Arunachala! becoming absorbed in your bliss!

श्रीमद्रमणमहर्षे दर्शनमरुणाचलस्य देवगिरा 

पञ्चकमार्या गीतौ  रत्नं  त्विदमौपनिषदं  हि  ||

shrImad-ramaNa-maharShe darshanam-aruNAchalasya devagirA

panchakam-AryA-gItau ratnam tvidam-aupaniShadam hi

Sri Ramana Maharshi's vision of Arunachala, rendered in these five gem of verses in the Arya meter, is the essence of the Upanishads.
