Pratah Smarana Stotram


प्रातः स्मरामि हृदि संस्फुरदात्मतत्त्वं 

सच्चित्सुखं परमहंसगतिं तुरीयम् |

यत्स्वप्नजागरसुषुप्तिमवैति नित्यं 

तद् ब्रह्म निष्कमलमहं न च भूतसङ्घः  ||

prAtah smarAmi hrudi samsphurad-Atmat-attvam

sacchitsukham paramahamsagatim turIyam

yat-svapna-jAgra-suShuptim-avaiti nityam

tad-brahma niShkalam-aham na cha bhUta-sanghah

In the early morning, I remember (meditate) the essence of the Self (Atma), shining brilliantly in the heart. It is existence, consciousness, and bliss—the ultimate goal of realized sages (paramahamsa) - beyond the three states of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep. That eternal presence, which witnesses these states, is Brahman, the indivisible reality. I am that Brahman, not merely a collection of physical elements.

प्रातर्भजामि मनसा वचसामगम्यं 

वाचो विभान्ति निखिला यदनुग्रहेण | 

यन्नेतिनेतिवचनैर्निगमा अवोचं_

स्तं देवदेवमजमच्युतमाहुरग्रयं ||

prAtarbhajAmi manasA vachasAmagamyam

vAcho vibhAnti nikhilA yadanugraheNa |

yan-neti-neti-vachanair-nigamA avocham_

stam deva-devam-ajam-achyutam-Ahur-agryam

In the early morning, I worship that which is beyond the reach of the mind and speech. By whose grace all words (speech) shine forth. That which the scriptures describe as 'not this, not this' (Neti Neti). That eternal, unborn, and infallible Supreme Being, the God of gods, whom they call the foremost.

प्रातर्नमामि तमसः परमर्कवर्णं 

पूर्णं सनातनपदं पुरुषोत्तमाख्यम् |

यस्मिन्निदं जगदशेषमशेषमूर्तौ 

रज्ज्वां भुजङ्गं इव प्रतिभासितं वै  ||

prAtarnamAmi tamasah paramarkavarNam

pUrNam sanAtanapadam puruShottamAkhyam

yasminnidam jagadasheShamasheShamUrtau

rajjvAm bhujangam iva pratibhAsitam vai

In the early morning, I bow down to the Supreme Being, beyond darkness, shining like the sun. That eternal, complete (Poornam) reality, known as Purushottama (the Supreme Purusha), in whom this entire universe is manifest - just as a snake appears on a rope (an illusion over the underlying reality).

श्लोकत्रयमिदं पुण्यं लोकत्रयविभूषणम् |

प्रातः काले पठेद्यस्तु स गच्छेत्परं पदम् ||

shloka-trayam-idam puNyam loka-traya-vibhUShaNam

prAtah kAle paThedyastu sa gacchetparam padam

These three verses are sacred and serve as an ornament to the three worlds. Whoever recites them in the morning shall attain the Supreme Abode.
